totally off the subject of family law…

I recently watched a movie entitled Food, Inc. In general the movie is about major corporations and the food we buy and eat.  It is very educational and a bit horrifying.  It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

Basically it boils down to the fact that all our meat type foods (chicken, beef, pork, etc…) come from a few major companies.  The packages may be different, and the names on the packages may be different, but they all come from the same place.  What this has resulted in is an assembly line type approach to processing meat.  Not only is it inhumane, it is extremely unhealthy.

The movie looks at the assembly lines in the meat and chicken business and discusses and shows all the collateral damage that this style of meat processing can and is causing.

For instance, one patty of hamburger meat will contain meat from multiple cows, all mixed together.  Included in the mixing process can be all types of diseases, including salmonella which the cows derive from standing in knee deep feces all day.  This salmonella is then transported through the creeks and rivers and ends up contaminating things like spinach and other vegetables.

It is a great movie and one that everyone should watch.  They have a website that you can visit to get invloved and a petition that can be signed regarding child nutrition.

How do you combat this?  Buy grass fed beef and vegetables from local farmers at farmers markets such as the Dallas Farmers Market.  In the Dallas area there are numerous farms selling grass fed beef and free range chickens.  Search “grass fed beef dallas tx” for local farms.  You can use the same search for your city.

It is a matter of our health and our children’s health.  Do what you can.
